Salsa Morita Recipe

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 3 medium tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 an onion
  • 3 Chile Morita @MXFlavour
  • 1/4 cup of water

    1. Split the chilies from top to bottom
    2. Remove and discard the stems and most of the seeds. Note: seeds and stems will make it spicy so if you want a spicy salsa, leave them on
    3. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat
    4. Cook each chili, pressing it down firmly and flipping once, until lightly toasted—approximately 3 to 5 seconds on each side
    5. Transfer the chilies to a plate
    6. Bring a large pot of water to the boil. Add the chilies, whole tomatoes and garlic and reduce the heat to medium and simmer.
    7. Remove each ingredient as it becomes tender—about 3–4 minutes for the tomato, 10–12 minutes for the chilies and garlic
    8. Puree the cooked ingredients with 1/4 cup of water in a food processor into a coarse salsa. Season with salt to taste
    9. Heat a pan, add the oil and pureed mixture. Let it simmer for 2 or 3 minutes
    10. Allow cool to room temp before serving. Note: recently made salsa will be spicier than that which has be stored longer
